The Science Behind 2D QRD
The Woody Omni Diffuser is a Quadratic Residue Diffuser (QRD), based on the original diffusers invented by physicist Manfred Schroeder in the 1970s. This technology is the golden standard because its high efficiency transcends random scattering.
Only True Diffusion: Unlike a rugged wall that randomly bounces sound, the QRD design is based on a physics formula, allowing you to predict its working range. It directs sound reflections back to your listening position, making your room sound measurably more lively.
Uniform 2D Scattering: The construction features both vertical and horizontal diffusion surfaces. This allows it to scatter sound uniformly into a hemisphere, effectively addressing reflections twice as well as standard 1D designs.
Broadband Coverage: The varying depths of each well determine the diffuser's effective frequency range. This construction makes the Woody Omni Diffuser highly effective across the whole upper-mid spectrum and higher frequencies (500 Hz+).
Optimal Placement Strategy
Primary Placement: Side Walls and First Reflections. The most crucial placement is on the sidewalls at your first reflection points.
Placing diffusers here prevents sound energy from reflecting directly off bare walls into your listening position, which is the cause of distracting flutter echoes.
This approach increases the liveliness and spaciousness of the music in your room without over-absorbing the mid and high frequencies.
Secondary Placement: Ceiling. We recommend treating the ceiling to prevent unwanted echoes and reflections from the largest untreated flat surface.
Placing diffusers on the ceiling helps create a more uniform and consistent sound field. This is an excellent alternative to using absorption, as it keeps energy in the room while controlling reflections from above.
Rear and Front Wall Placement
Rear Wall: Placement on the rear wall is less common for the Woody Omni Diffuser because many of our customers prefer our Woody Fractal 34 QRD diffusers for this specific application.
Front Wall: This is suitable for audiophiles who want to maintain the maximum amount of energy in the room. You can substitute absorption panels on the front wall with diffusers to gain energy and spaciness.
Purchasing Guide
Woody Omni Diffuser is in the ‘Kid’ size 60 x 60 cm, so we are packing them in two pieces in one box. A single piece does not make much sense from an acoustic perspective, so you can get two or four at once. Remember, you must cover a sufficient wall area to achieve evenly diffused sound.

Diffusers do the opposite in a more precise way: they evenly distribute sound waves by scattering them from an irregular surface. Creating this uniform diffuse field maintains the sound energy in the room, making music feel more spacious and lively rather than dull.
Where Should I Place Diffusers?
Placement is crucial for effective sound scattering:
Rear Wall: This is the most popular placement for studios and listening rooms. Position your listening spot at least 2 meters away from the rear wall. This gives the sound waves enough distance to distribute the energy evenly before reaching your ears, ensuring the best possible listening experience.
Side Walls: Place diffusers on your first reflection points to preserve liveliness in your room. This is a great alternative to using only absorbers, as it ensures sound energy is scattered rather than reflected directly at your listening position.
Front Wall: This is suitable for audiophiles who have already treated their rear wall. By having two opposite walls covered by diffuser arrays, you can create the effect of 'endless space' and add even more depth to your music.
