Woody Resonator Tuned Bass Trap

Woody Resonator Tuned Bass Trap
The Woody Resonator is a specialized, high-performance acoustic absorber. Precisely tuned by its perforated front plate, it targets and attenuates the deepest bass frequencies (30-60 Hz). This powerful, focused solution adds focused clarity and a touch of luxurious wooden style to any studio.
Key features:
Uses classic Helmholtz technology for focused frequency control
Provides instant absorption of a specific frequency range, targeting 30 to 60 Hz
The tuning is achieved and controlled entirely by the perforated front plate
Built without mineral wool, ensuring your air remains free of micro-particles
Features a sophisticated and durable patented wooden finish
Save 10% when purchasing multiple units
Woody Resonator: Precisely Tuned Helmholtz Filter
The Woody Resonator is a true Helmholtz resonator designed to absorb a very specific, narrow range of low frequencies (e.g., 48-50 Hz). Unlike the broadband absorption of our Woody Queen or Woody Wavy panels, the Resonator is made-to-order and custom-tuned to address your unique problem frequency.
How the Technology Works
The Resonator operates on acoustic physics described by Herman von Helmholtz in the 1800s:
Acoustic Filter: It is an enclosed air system that communicates with the outside through a perforated front plate. Like blowing over a bottle opening, the air inside resonates at a specific frequency based on the geometry and spacing of the hole openings.
Custom Tuning: We tune the Resonator by calculating the precise spacing and diameter of the holes. Theoretically, we can design a Resonator to absorb any single frequency across the entire sound spectrum.
Increased Efficiency: An acoustic material called Envizol (made from recycled PET) is placed inside the panel to increase the absorption effectiveness further.
Efficiency and Placement
Narrow-Band Absorption: The Resonator is made-to-measure. If you target a peak at 38 Hz, the panel will work only in a narrow range (36-40 H), with maximum absorption at 38 Hz.
Placement: Place the unit as close to the listening position as possible. Ideal locations are sidewalls and front walls near the corners. Experimentation is key to finding the point of highest energy absorption in your room.
Purchasing and Quality
Quantity: We recommend starting with at least two Resonators in a typical home studio to achieve a sound pressure level reduction of more than 3 dB. You can add more if the frequency peak remains too high.
Sustainable & Patented: We pride ourselves on offering handmade, sustainable products.
We use Envizol (recycled PET) and never use mineral wool, ensuring clean air.

WHEN TO USE WOODY RESONATOR
The Woody Resonator is essential when acoustic measurement shows a specific, problematic frequency peak. For example, here we have an SPL measurement that shows significant energy peak at 58 Hz.
Measure First: Perform an SPL (Sound Pressure Level) measurement of your room's frequency response.
Tune and Treat: Identify the single, most significant peak (the problem frequency).
Apply Solution: Order a Resonator precisely tuned to that frequency to eliminate only the issue, leaving the rest of your sound untouched.

FAQ
Where Should I Place the Woody Resonator?
Optimal placement for the Woody Resonator is as close to the area of highest sound pressure as possible, ideally near the listening position. Unlike traditional corner bass traps, Resonators are designed for versatile placement:
Ideal Locations: Sidewalls and front walls close to the corners are excellent starting points.
Best Practice: We encourage experimentation. The highest absorption often occurs in unexpected areas, and moving the Resonator by even a foot can significantly impact its performance.
How Many Resonators Should I Use?
A single Resonator will absorb a large amount of energy within its narrow frequency spectrum, but multiple units are often required, especially in larger rooms.
Starting Point: Begin with one Resonator tuned to your specific problem frequency. If the pressure peak remains too high, add more.
Performance Goal: In a typical home studio, you will likely need at least two Resonators to reduce the sound pressure level by at least 3 dB. One unit may be enough if you only need a minor adjustment.
Can I Use Woody Queen or Wavy Panels Instead of Resonators?
Not for targeted low-frequency issues.
Woody Queen: These are broadband absorbers designed for mid-to-high frequencies and will not effectively treat the deepest bass.
Woody Wavy: These corner absorbers are highly effective, wide-spectrum bass traps (40–80 Hz). If your goal is to absorb sound energy from a wide range of frequencies, the Woody Wavy is a great option. However, if you need to go lower than 40 Hz or must eliminate only a specific frequency without affecting others, the focused Resonator is your best tool.
Is This a Bass Trap?
Technically, no. The term "bass trap" usually refers to devices that absorb energy across a wide frequency spectrum and are primarily designed for corner placement.
The Woody Resonator is a Helmholtz Resonator—an acoustic filter. It is unique because it is precisely tuned to absorb only a narrow band of low frequencies. Since it doesn't rely on corners, you gain flexibility: Resonators can be placed on corners, sidewalls, or even the ceiling, wherever the problem frequency is most active.
Featuring advanced membrane technology, the handcrafted Woody Wavy is an elegant acoustic absorber engineered specifically to tame your room’s most challenging low frequencies. Its sophisticated wooden finish adds a touch of modern glamour to any studio or living space.
