Household acoustics

Invisible and inseparable parts of each interior are its acoustic properties. Our hearing perceives not only the volume of sounds (called acoustic pressure) but the frequency of sounds as well.

For us, the acoustic properties of the interior represent the way we perceive the surrounding space and the sounds that occur in it. Since we spend a substantial part of our lives here, it would be foolish of us not to be interested in the acoustics of our households.

Acoustic absorber Woody Queen in combination with plants provides acoustic comfort in the living room.

Enjoy the peace

You have surely noticed that the new apartment has different acoustics before furnishing. When the space gets equipped with furniture and other various decorations, it undergoes significant acoustic changes. The sound waves now have something different than walls to bounce off and can be partially absorbed by the materials. However, in most cases, this change in room acoustics is not enough to achieve pleasant acoustic comfort.

If the walls are not able to sufficiently absorb and reduce the sounds inside the room, they reflect the sound back into space. The sound waves are then combined together and it may sound like in a station hall at your home. This phenomenon is called reverberation, which is the same as an echo in nature.

We consider a certain amount of reverberation in the room necessary because our auditory organs can perceive the space and its size thanks to these sound reflections. However, if the reverberation time is too long (the sound takes too long to decay), the noise in the room will not be pleasant.

Not just for home theater

The easiest way to improve acoustic well-being in your interior is to install Ekustik Woody acoustic absorbers on your walls. The principle of this solution is to absorb sound waves with acoustic elements placed on walls from which sound is not further reflected. The improvement in sound in the room is immediately evident, and you will never want to listen to music or chat with friends elsewhere again!

Living and dining rooms are the most commonly used household spaces, which is why we designed our absorbers to look like pieces of furniture.

There are no limits to the application. Do you have a large hallway? The carpet and the coat rack can help, but is it enough to reduce noise caused by reflections from the walls?

Do you have a home cinema with good speakers but you don’t feel the chills? Use a few of our absorbers on the sidewalls and you won’t get out of your couch. The sound can get so much better.

Choose your design

Ekustik offers you tailor-made acoustic solutions for your home. Absorbers Woody are available in various sizes and can be customized according to your demands to fit your interior.

The larger the room you have, the larger the absorption surface needs to be. For application at your home we recommend the following dimensions:

  • room from 8 m² - absorption surface at least 1 m²

  • room from 13 m² - absorption surface at least 1,5 m²

  • room from 18 m² - absorption surface at least 2 m²

A greater depth of the Woody absorber further increases the absorption efficiency. However, at your home, you do not need a thicker absorbent layer than 5 cm. Thicker absorption is used in music studios to absorb certain frequencies.
