Household Acoustics

The Invisible Part of Your Home

The acoustic properties of your interior are an invisible, yet inseparable part of your home experience. Our hearing perceives not only the loudness of sounds (known as acoustic pressure) but also their frequency.

For us, the acoustics of an interior dictate the way we perceive the surrounding space and every sound that occurs within it. Since we spend a substantial part of our lives in our homes, it would be foolish not to be interested in making the acoustics of our households comfortable and controlled. Good household acoustics directly translate into better communication, reduced stress, and increased overall well-being.

Acoustic absorber Woody Queen in combination with plants provides acoustic comfort in the living room.

Enjoy the Peace: Transforming Your Home Acoustics

You’ve likely noticed the acoustic shift after furnishing a new apartment. While furniture, carpets, and decorations partially absorb sound waves, in most homes, this change isn't enough to achieve truly pleasant acoustic comfort.

When walls can’t sufficiently absorb sound, they reflect it back into the room. These combined sound waves create reverberation—the same phenomenon as an echo—making your home sound unpleasantly loud, like a station hall.

We consider a certain amount of reverberation necessary; it’s how your ear perceives space and size. However, if the reverberation time is too long (the sound takes too long to decay), the noise in the room will be tiring and unpleasant.

Acoustic Comfort: Not Just for Home Theater

The simplest and most effective way to improve acoustic well-being in your interior is to install Ekustik Woody acoustic absorbers on your walls. The principle is simple: the elements absorb sound waves from the walls, preventing reflections.

The improvement in sound is immediately evident. You'll notice a massive difference—you'll never want to listen to music or chat with friends elsewhere again!

We designed our absorbers to look like pieces of furniture because living and dining rooms are the most commonly used household spaces.

  • Large Hallway? Carpet and coat racks help, but they aren't enough to reduce noise and reflections from large, bare walls.

  • Home Cinema? If you have great speakers but don’t feel the chills, placing a few absorbers on the sidewalls will make the sound so much better you won't leave your couch.

There are no limits to the application in your home.

Choose Your Design, Size Your Solution

Ekustik offers tailor-made acoustic solutions for your home. Woody absorbers are available in various sizes and can be customized according to your demands to perfectly fit your interior.

The larger the room, the larger the required absorption surface. Here are our minimum recommendations for application at home:

  • Room from 8 sqm: Absorption surface of at least four sqm.

  • Room from 13 sqm: Absorption surface of at least six sqm.

  • Room from 18 sqm: Absorption surface of at least eight sqm.

A greater depth of the Woody absorber increases absorption efficiency. However, for household applications, you generally do not need an absorbent layer thicker than 5 cm. Thicker absorption is typically reserved for music studios to control specific, low frequencies.
